Friedensau Adventist University celebrated the beginning of the new academic year 2017/2018 during a church service on Saturday, October 14, 2017. The new students were welcomed cordially by two representatives of the university – Dittmar Dost (Chaplain) and Jens Schwenger (student dean). Rector Prof. Dr. phil. Roland Fischer held the sermon and related the story of the “swimming axe” out of 2 Kings 6,1-7 with the experiences that people made with God especially here in Friedensau in the presence and in the past.
It was also a divine service of farewell as all the graduates of the next day who continue their studies in another course or who start working. Darja Schneider – as representative for the students – expressed her gratitude and reflected the external perception of the place of study and her personal growth during the last years by reflecting her beginning of her studies.
International and Geman students were involved in the liturgy. The International Choir sang under the musical direction of Deborah Sposito; the band consisting of students accompanied the congregational singing. Sabrina Nern (saxophone) and Sebastian Kuhle (piano) played the prelude; Heike Fischer (organ) played the postlude.
