Democracy in the age of digital monitoring

The Human Rights Day was organized also in 2017 with several events at Friedensau Adventist University. December 10 has been the Day of Rememberance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights since 1948 when this Declaration was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. The motto of the events at FAU on the International Day of Human Rights in 2017 is “Democracy in the age of digital monitoring”.

On Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 2 p. m., Sebastian Striegel, Minister of the State Assembly, Bündnis 90/die Grünen, gave a lecture on the topic. After the lecture, a movie about an American Whistleblower who is living now in Russia in asylum was shown followed by an additional discussion about the topic.

At the same time, an exhibition with the title „Secret – a societal phenomenon“ can be visited at the university’s library, Ahornstraße 3, 39291 Möckern-Friedensau, from November 15, 2017 to January 18, 2018. The Nemetschek-Stiftung provides its exhibits for the university’s library. Visitors can think about the main questions of the present on the topic of “secrets” during the regular opening hours of the library: What does secrecy mean at the “age of transparency”? How do the changes in public and private life influence the thinking and acting in politics, economics and private life? More information at: www.thh-friedensau.de/bibliothek/
