A Legal Requirement
All foreign students are required by German Law to have health insurance and liability insurance. In order to be insured by a health insurance company, a non-European student needs to fill appropriate forms.
Citizens from the EU country members and other countries who have signed agreements with Germany may still be covered by their home country health insurance companies. In case you have the European Health Insurance card, you can go straight to the doctor.
The insurance has to be effective since the first day of the month. Payments for daily or weekly insurance periods are not acceptable. The total insurance premium should be paid for the whole period of your stay. You are kindly asked to pay in monthly instalments if you are staying for a prolonged period.
