Beginning of Studies
In most cases, international students arrive at Friedensau 1 to 3 days before their expected date of commencing studies. This is helpful since they get time to know the environment and don’t miss any scheduled orientation session.
As an international student, you are advised to communicate with the International Office at FAU before you start your journey so as to reach Friedensau safely.
At FAU, the academic calendar comprises 2 semesters: winter semester and summer semester, each one having 15 weeks of lecture period. The winter semester begins on the 1st of October and ends in the first half of March. It has normally a three week lecture-free period during Christmas time and another five week lecture-free period between February and March. These lecture-free periods enable students to complete their university assignments and provide time for visiting family and friends.
The summer semester begins in the second half of March and ends on the 30th of September. It precedes the summer vacation (July to September) which can be used for several activities: going home, completing papers and theses, working, etc.
Each year, the university calendar provides the exact dates for starting and ending a semester.
