How old must I be to attend Friedensau Adventist University?

There is no age limit for joining Friedensau.

Which language will I use in my studies at FAU?

Depending on your program of study, you can use either German or English. Friedensau offers all its undergraduate programs in German. Graduate programs are also in German except the Master of Theological Studies and the Masters of Art in International Social Sciences which are fully taught in English.

How do I apply to FAU?

Is there any application fee?

Friedensau Adventist University does not charge an application fee.

Is there any application deadline?

You are free to apply any time. However, if you wish to join during the winter semester (1st of October), the end of April is your deadline for application. Otherwise, you can join during the summer semester and your deadline for application is October.

When is the best time to join FAU?

If you choose a master study program which is taught in English (International Social Sciences or Master of Theological Studies), you can begin either in winter semester (beginning of October) or in summer semester (middle of March). The German course begins in the middle of September; all the other programs are starting in the beginning of October.

What is the average enrolment at FAU?

This winter semester 2009-2010 we have some 170 enrolled students.

Can I get a government recognized degree from FAU?

All degree/study programs offered by FAU are recognized both by AQAS (the German Accrediting Agency of the German Government) and the AAA (Adventist Accrediting Association of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists).

How much time does it take to process my admission?

If the application package is well completed with the required documents enclosed, one month is enough for processing your admission.

How do I know that I have been admitted?

The Admissions Office will send you an Admission Letter as soon as your admission process is over.

What do I do with the Admission Letter that I get from FAU?

You need this letter in order to apply for your student visa to Germany. Besides, you should travel with it since you will need them at the airport/port of entry or when applying for visa extension.

What is the weather of Germany?

Like most European countries, German is a green country. Although the weather changes frequently, the temperature is generally between 7º C and -10º C during winter and between 30º C and 13º C during summer semester.

How do I reach Friedensau from Schönefeld, Tegel or Tempelhof airport in Berlin?

When you have bought the plane ticket please inform us immediately regarding the time of your arrival in Berlin. We will give you a telephone number of a student who will pick you up in Burg, the nearest town to our university campus.

 

From the international airport “Tegel” (Flughafen Berlin-Tegel)

If you come to the airport Tegel you need to find the bus Nr. TXL 9 and go with this bus till the station "Zoologischer Garten" (zoological garden). The exit to the bus stop you will find between the check in gate 0 and 15 on the left side of the information service. The ticket costs 2,10 euros. You will need ca. 15-20 Min. to reach the train station “Zoologischer Garten”. When you reach “Zoologischer Garten” please go to the information center at the train station and ask how you can reach Burg at Magdeburg by train. In Berlin many people speak English. It will not be a problem if you have to ask someone for the information. At the train station you take a train (Regional Express) which goes to Magdeburg. You go with this train till Burg, which is approximately 1 hour 15 min from Berlin to Burg. In Burg you have to get out and we will pick you up. The train ticket costs ca. 20,00 euros. The train goes to Magdeburg each hour beginning 6.17 a.m. (7.17, 8.17 and so on).

From the Schönefeld International Airport (Flughafen Berlin-Schönefeld)

Please find the Terminal C at the airport. Across the Terminal C you will see the way to the train station (U-Bahn). It is a long pass way half covered with glass. There you need to find the train “Airport Express Schoenefeld” which provides a daily service between 4.30 and 23.00. The train runs every 30 minutes from 4.54 a.m. to 9.27 p.m. and then hourly until 11.27 p.m. There are ticket machines on platforms 11 and 13. Departures are usually from platform 7. You need to buy a ticket which goes to Magdeburg till Burg. It costs 22 euros.

With the “Airport Express Schoenefeld” you go 2 stations (ca. 17 min.) till the train station “Ost Bahnhof” (East Train Station). There you need to change to the train RE (regional express train) going to Magdeburg. You do not need to by another ticket. You use the same ticket which you bought before. From Ost Bahnhof till Burg you will go ca. 1 hour 35 min. The train runs to Magdeburg each hour. In Burg you have to get out and we will pick you up.

When you have bought the ticket for the train please give a call (find a telephone cell at the train station) to Irina Heinz (03921 916 134), Admissions Officer, or Wolfgang Stammler,the dean of students (03921 916 140).

 

When should I be at FAU?

Although you are most welcome to visit Friedensau any time, international students arrive here 1 to 3 days before the beginning of the semester. You are advised to let us know about your arrival date so we can be ready to welcome you.

Whom should I see first once I arrive at FAU?

As soon as you have arrived at Friedensau, see first Wolfgang Stammler, the Dean of Students, for your room and then see Irina Heinz, the Admissions Officer, for other student matters.

Do I have to attend any orientation meeting?

FAU organizes orientation sessions for new students at the beginning of each semester.

How can I open a bank account?

After you have obtained your student visa, you can easily open a bank account with any bank in Burg although sometimes having a little knowledge of German helps in bank transactions.

Can I call from my room or apartment?

In case your room/apartment has a university telephone line, you cannot call outside the campus network. However, it is possible to apply for a personal line and in that case you are able to call all over the world on your own expenses. Besides, there is a telephone booth on campus that you can use for calls. It is possible to get a telephone card from Ihle shop.

Do I have to live in the Halls of Residences or can I live off-campus?

You are free to live either on campus or off campus.

Are there apartments for couples and/or families?

Yes, Friedensau provides apartments for married couples. You are advised to apply in advance since they are limited. For further information, contact Wolfgang Stammler (e-mail: wolfgang.stammler@thh-friedensau.de).

Can I have a private room?

Our Residence halls provide both double and single rooms. However, single rooms are limited. The Dean of Students will take care of your application.

Can I use electrical equipment?

The power supply is 240 volts, 50 hertz (check). Appliances of lower than 2 kilowatts may be used. Power restrictions are to be respected.

How do student’s rooms look like and what furniture will I have in my room?

In your room you will find the following furniture: a bed, a chair, a study desk, a mirror, cupboards, drawers, and bookshelves. In addition, you will also get one bed cover, blanket, pillow, and bed sheet.

How can I connect my computer in the Halls of Residence/apartment?

Each room in the residence hall has an internet connection and internet cable can be purchased from the university’s cashier.

Where can I get food on campus?

The university cafeteria offers three meals every day. The time table is as follow: Breakfast: 07:00-08:00 Lunch: 12:15-13:45 Supper: 17:30-18:45 This schedule changes slightly on weekends and breaks. You can pay with cash or a meal card that can be used by any person.

Besides, you can visit Ihle Shop, just on campus, for your purchases.

When will I have breaks and vacations?

The academic calendar is published in the Student handbook or on the Website (campus net): 3 weeks during the Christmas season, mid February until mid March, 1 week during Easter season, and from July to September.

Is there worship service at FAU?

Spiritual life is very important to Friedensau community. Worship services are available and both students and personnel are encouraged to attend.

What sports can I play at Friedensau?

In the gymnasium you can play badminton, volleyball, ping pong, handball, basketball and indoor soccer. In the park, you can play chess, tennis and table tennis. Access to the gymnasium is free of charge. In case you are interested in bodybuilding, you can have access to the fitness centre after paying a small fee.

Where do I find information on what is happening on campus?

Up coming events are communicated to students through different ways: - their e-mail addresses; - their mail boxes; - the notice boards; - during “Meeting Under the Word;” - at the time of worship services.

How do I call in case of emergency or fire?

For emergency calls, dial: - 110 for the Police; - 112 for Emergency/Fire; - (0361)730730 for toxin emergency; - (0361)116116 for blocking your credit card.

Is there any job opportunity at FAU?

Limited job opportunities are possible both on campus and in the senior Citizen’s home.
