Institute for Church Music

The Institute for Church Music observes and professionally relates to the social and sociological changes of the present time with special reference to music, at three levels:

  • Research and Scientific Developments
  • Teaching and Practical Training
  • Organisation and Practice

The research mandate of the „Institutes for Church Music“ is connected to the academic programme of Friedensau Adventist University. This research is conducted in close cooperation with different specialized scientific organizations and institutes of German Universities as well as conferences and bodies of the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church. The research process and findings are reflected in documentations, articles in scientific periodicals and in publications of FAU (Friedensauer Schriftenreihe, Reihe C: „Musik-Kirche-Kultur“).

The „Institute for Church Music“ is connected to the School of Theology. As part of FAU it is responsible for the theoretical and practical training of church musicians, theologians, social workers and prospective musicians. Professional concepts of musical training are used to establish a pedagogical and academic relationship to the present day reality of the church community and society at large. This institute is mainly concerned with the development of the Church community internally and externally.

In addition to research and teaching the Institute for Church Music has a chamber orchestra and a choir as permanent facilities, which adds to the prestige of FAU in the church and society. They build a bridge between the church as a supporting body and the academic institution.
