Institute for the History
of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

This institute was founded as part of the Friedensau Adventist University in 1997. It works in close cooperation with the „Historical Archive of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Europe”. It stands to reason that an Adventist University that studies the history of the Adventist movement in depth found it necessary to establish such a unique scientific institution. The Adventists began to study their own church history relatively late because of their strong eschatological orientation. Researching historical and denominational aspects of Adventism and related movements shall not remain the privilege of a few chosen specialists. Opening up to a generally interested public, the institute organizes lectures and colloquia as well as exhibitions and documentations. The academic periodical „Spes Christiana„ published by FAU provides a platform for the scientific evaluation and didactic editing of relevant material. The institute is associated with different research projects.
