I did my internship at Myitkyina, Kachin State in Myanmar from January 2nd, 2017 to February 27th, 2017 at the Community Health and Development organization (CHAD). The Community Health and Development (CHAD) organization was established on January 10th, 2009 in Myitkyina Diocese. The purpose of CHAD is to reach out to people in farther mountainous and jungle areas to provide health education, health care, medical attention, children’s education and community development programs in these remote parts of the Kachin State. The vision of CHAD is that the communities in the remote and mountainous areas become vibrant and self-sufficient in their way of life.
During my internship with CHAD I was asked to perform task such as preparing lesson plans for awareness training, distributing money to parents for their children’s education allowance. I was also tasked with recording data for the annual plan and quarterly plans, and attended meetings with UNICEF, workshops, visited internally displaced persons camps and conducted awareness training.
I learned a lot during this period of my internship. However, I was faced with some challenges along the way, namely passing daily through military check points, transportation issues and everyday safety and security challenges due to conflicts. Nonetheless, I had a great learning experience with this organization.
