On September 15, 2017, the new course ‘German as a Foreign Language’ began. The university added the members of the German course to the circle of students at Friedensau Adventist University for one academic year. The majority comes from the USA; the others from Argentina, Eritrea, Finland, Ghana, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary. In more than 20 units per week the students learn how the German language works. In addition to the language basics, they will have, history, reading, phonetics and conversation. Excursions to cities and places of interest nearby as well as further away offer insights into the language, German mentality and values. The course ‘German as a foreign language’ is offered in two levels: 1. with basic knowledge (minimum level GER A1); 2. without prior knowledge. The aim of both courses is the TestDaF (Test German as a foreign language), which is entitled to study at German universities. For the students in the advanced course it is possible to reach the level for this test after one year; the beginners usually need about 1,5 to 2 years.
