Master of Arts Social and Health Management

For the beginning of winter semester 2019/20, no new students will be enrolled.

The Master of Arts in Social and Health Management qualifies graduates particularly for administrative and leadership responsibilities in both the social science and health fields. At the same time, legal and organisational instruction is also given. This equips one with the knowledge to establish a start-up business and become self-employed-- an increasing segment of the market in the field of health care.

The programme is offered extra-occupational. It is state-accredited and qualifies the graduate for doctoral studies.

Structure

The course of study as an extra-occupational study encompasses a standard duration of 3 years (6 semesters), while the student continues working in his/her career. The program is offered in the framework of block weeks in module form (20 credits/semester) and includes also an internship of 4 weeks duration as well as a Master's thesis.

The programme has a modular structure. A module consists of several courses which are grouped in a thematic block. The modules generally take up one semester or one year of study. The certificates of achievement from the individual units are the basis for the module grade, which is awarded as an overall grade. Credits are assigned to the successfully completed modules according to the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). The modules and their performance grades are thus recognized throughout Europe, making it easier to change one's place of study. Transfer to an overseas institution is also possible.

Relevance

Because of the complex challenges in the social and health sector, this programme pays special attention to the passing on of practice-oriented professional, method, and social competence. These management competences are looked at by paying special attention to the (non-) profit areas in the social and health sector.

Graduants may apply for the following leadership positions in the social and health sector:

A leadership position in a department, project or team in an institution concerned with social work or the health system (e.g. child and youth services, social services, social and health care services)
Development, implementation and administration of innovative concepts in mobile, ambulant, or semi-residential sectors (e.g. projects with several generations involved, educational projects, hospice projects)
Public relations, counseling/coaching of institutions or political decision makers.

Prerequisites

For the beginning of winter semester 2019/20, no new students will be enrolled.

For all applicants, the prerequisite for the programme is a Bachelors degree in social science, social pedagogy, psychology, educational sciences, political sciences, sociology, or an equivalent with a GPA  2.5/3.5.

Foreign applicants who have little or no knowledge of German can take a one-year course in German as a foreign language (›Deutsch als Fremdsprache‹) at Friedensau Adventist University. Applicants must otherwise be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of German, e.g. by successfully passing a test of German as a foreign language (TestDaF-Prüfung) with level-4 results in all 4 areas of performance (4 x TDN 4).
