Content and Structure

The normal program length is 4 semesters. It may be extended by up to 2 semesters upon application. Like the Bachelor's program, the Master's program also has a modular structure. Larger thematic blocks are grouped in modules. Each module consists of several courses from various areas of study, from Biblical Theology, Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, Practical Theology, Mission Studies, and Church Development. The modules generally take one semester or one year of study. The overall module grade is the arithmetic mean of the individual course grades. For each module completed, a set number of credits is given according to the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System). The credits are recognized throughout Europe and therefore transferable. Thus, transferring to a study program abroad should be easy.

Modules

  • Interpretation of Reality and Hermeneutics
  • Theology and Religious Consciousness
  • Being a Christian in the Church and Society
  • Gospel as a Communicative Event
  • Hope and the Future
  • Religion as Ritual and Cult
  • Continuity and Change
  • Ethics and Responsibility
  • Art and Culture
  • Foundations of Christian Faith
  • Archaeology of Palestine
  • Christianity/Present-day World Religions
  • Child and Youth Work
  • Faith and Science

Admission requirements

For German applicants, the prerequisite for the program is a Bachelor's degree in Theology.

Foreign applicants whose Bachelor of Arts is equivalent to the German degree can generally expect to be admitted to study at our university. Foreign applicants who have little or no knowledge of German may take a one-year course in German as a Foreign Language at Friedensau Adventist University. Foreign applicants must otherwise be able to demonstrate good knowledge of German, e.g. by successfully passing a test of German as a Foreign Language (TestDaF examination) with at least 2x TDN 4 and 2x TDN 3.

The Admissions Office may provide you with more detailed information.
