Regulations on the use of AI tools in the context of examinations at Friedensau Adventist University<\/h1>\n

Basic principles<\/h3>\n

The regulations for the use of AI tools are based on the following principles:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Written examinations must reflect the independent work of students.<\/li>\n
  2. It is part of good scientific practice to trace content and ideas taken from others back to the original source or at least to a source that is sufficiently reliable for scientific purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Permitted and non-permitted uses<\/h3>\n

    For the use of AI tools, a distinction is made between the three areas described below. If AI is to be used for purposes not mentioned here, the responsible examiners must be consulted in advance.<\/p>\n

    1. Permitted use that does not need to be mentioned<\/h5>\n

    The use of AI tools for research, brainstorming, translation suggestions, spelling and language correction or as a virtual discussion partner is permitted.<\/p>\n

    2. Permitted use that must be disclosed<\/h5>\n

    The following applications of AI tools are permitted but must be mentioned:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • The automatic transcription of interviews and the use of AI tools in the context of analysis software for empirical data.<\/li>\n
    • If the original work was written in another language and is submitted as a fully AI-translated version.<\/li>\n
    • If text generated by generative AI is incorporated into the author's own work \u2013 either verbatim or paraphrased \u2013 it must be clearly marked and cited like any other external source.<\/li>\n
    • If AI-generated images, graphics, diagrams, music or other media content are used, the source must be cited accordingly. verwendet werden, ist eine entsprechende Quellenangabe erforderlich.
      \nThe source must be identified in the text in accordance with the usual citation rules; the name and version of the AI tool, the date and \u2013 if applicable \u2013 the type of data provided must be mentioned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      3. Non-permitted use<\/h5>\n

      The following types of AI use are not permitted:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Any use that contravenes the applicable data protection regulations. For example, if documents containing personal data (without the consent of the data subjects) are uploaded to AI cloud systems that are not GDPR-compliant (General Data Protection Regulation).<\/li>\n
      • The use of AI-generated text passages without appropriate identification.<\/li>\n
      • The use of AI to assess student papers or examinations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        General provisions<\/h3>\n

        The author bears sole responsibility for the accuracy of all content in the written paper, even when AI tools are used.<\/p>\n

        Any use of AI tools that does not comply with these guidelines may be considered to be fraudulent. Even when used in accordance with the rules, it must be ensured that the written work represents the student's own work in the central areas and to a sufficient extent to pass the examination.<\/p>\n

        The following signed declaration must be attached to every written examination.<\/p>\n

        Declaration of independence<\/h3>\n

        I, (name), hereby declare,<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        • that I have completed the submitted work independently and without any unauthorized assistance.<\/li>\n
        • that I have identified passages of the thesis that are taken from other documents (including Internet sources and AI-based tools) in terms of wording or meaning, stating the source.<\/li>\n
        • that I have not previously submitted this work in the same or a similar form to another examination authority.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          I agree,<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          • that my work may be checked for plagiarism using software.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            I am aware,<\/strong><\/p>\n

              \n
            • that if my paper contains plagiarised passages, this may be considered an attempted fraud and the paper will be assessed as \u2018failed\u2019.<\/li>\n
            • that in the event of an attempted fraud, a formal warning will be issued by the examination board and that a repeated warning will lead to exclusion from further examinations.<\/li>\n
            • that if AI tools are used, I bear full responsibility for any incorrect or distorted content generated by the AI, incorrect references, violations of data protection and copyright law or plagiarism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
