It is one of the announced highlights during the Hanukkah festival, in which the library team is participating with several events. Guy Woodcock will present himself in Friedensau with the solo programme \u2018The Guitar of the Baroque\u2019. Admission is free; a donation for the university's cultural work is requested.<\/p>\n<p>Guy Woodcock was born in Israel, but has lived in Berlin for more than ten years. He completed his studies at the Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik \u201eHanns Eisler\u201c under Professor Eugenia Kanthou. At the Universit\u00e4t der K\u00fcnste Berlin, he studied classical guitar with Professor Thomas M\u00fcller-Pering and graduated with top marks in July 2021. A semester abroad took him to Barcelona to the Escuela Superior de M\u00fasica de Cataluna and to Professor Laura Young. Since then, he has performed as a solo guitarist, but also plays in various formations such as the Jarock Ensemble (guitar, vocals, oboe and recitation). He has been very successful in national and international music competitions; in 2007, for example, he came second in the national guitar competition of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. In September 2023, he won first prize at the \u2018Ferdinand Rebay\u2019 international competition in Heiligenkreuz (Austria) in the solo guitar category. He passes on his skills to the younger generation as a guitar teacher.<\/p>\n<p>The guitar concert on 28 December in the library will feature pieces arranged for guitar: Hanukkah songs, music by Johann Sebastian Bach and \u2018Caprichos\u2019 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. The concert lasts just under 60 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, begins this year on 25 December 2024 and ends on 2 January 2025, and the university library is taking the opportunity to light a light every day and offer various cultural events related to Jewish cultural traditions. The events are suitable for visitors of all ages.
