Excursion to the ‘Bread for the World’ organisation
06. May. 2025
On the 5th of May, 2025, students enrolled in the Migration Governance and Practice course embarked on an academic trip to Berlin to visit the international NGO Bread for the World (Brot für die Welt). This visit was designed to offer students a practical lens into how international non-governmental organizations contribute to migration policy-making and governance, particularly within the German and global contexts.
The class was hosted by Dr. Andreas Grünewald, policy advisor on migration at Brot für die Welt. Dr. Grünewald shared invaluable perspectives on the intersections between externalisation policies and their tangible impact on human lives. He also underscored the critical role of rights-based approaches in both advocacy efforts and the formulation of just, humane migration policies. This visit gave students a meaningful look at how civil society actors actively shape migration governance, turning theory into action.
The trip was organised and led by Dr. Kwaku Arhin-Sam, the course lecturer. Participating students included: Kingsley Adu, Uriel Agbojo, Christian Akimana, Kofi Amano-Gyambibi, Sa Aung Thu, Benedicte Baraka, Marius Barumwete, Faustin Bayose, Eric Bisimwa, Remy Bivahagumye, Laura Mwangi, Moesha Sagayle, and Bontu Tesema Shuku.
