09. May. 2025
The Friedensau Adventist University (FAU) invites you to the book premiere of the Friedensau Chronicle on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, 4 pm, in the university library. In the presence of the author, Dr Johannes Hartlapp, the book designer, the photographer (both Leipzig), the editor and a representative of the Altenburg printing house, the recently published work will be presented to interested readers. The book ‘125 years of Friedensau. A Chronicle’ can be purchased on site that afternoon. There will also be an opportunity to ask the author and the creative team questions and have the book signed. Admission to the event is free.
To mark the 125th anniversary of the village of Friedensau in Jerichower Land, Friedensau church historian Dr Johannes Hartlapp has written a chronicle, almost a reference work on Friedensau. He is considered to have a profound knowledge of the town's history, having not only spent his childhood and youth here, but also studied in Friedensau and taught at the FAU for 30 years. His father, lecturer Wolfgang Hartlapp (1929–2022), began collecting documents on local history back in the 1980s.
The pictures and documents now published come from his collection as well as from various archives throughout Germany, but also from a number of supporting Friedensau residents. The chronicle is organised by decade and arranged thematically. A photo essay by photographer Matthias Knoch complements the historical documents with atmospheric current photos. The lovingly designed and high-quality work – where the experience of book designer Ulrike Weißgerber and editor Andrea Cramer is evident on every page – provides deep insights into the historical context. The author focuses on the events of the first hundred years of Friedensau's existence and its institutions, in particular the founding and development of Friedensau Adventist University, as well as formative personalities. The technical data: Format: 28 cm x 21 cm | Size: 280 pages with about 450, mostly historical pictures, as well as many, partly full-page colour photos | Price: 44,90 Euro | ISBN 978-3-935480-99-4.
