25 graduates successfully complete their studies

13. Oct. 2025

On 12 October 2025, the ceremonial presentation of master's degrees took place at Friedensau Adventist University. Twenty-five graduates—a relatively small group—received their certificates from the two deans of the university, Alexander Schulze, Ph.D., for theology, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Spiegler for social sciences. The keynote address at the graduation ceremony was given by Marius Munteanu, Ph.D., director of the Education Department of the Seventh-day Adventist Church at the Inter-European Division (Bern). He appealed to the audience not to view education as an ‘expense’ but as an investment that may be risky at times but always pays off, sometimes only after a long period of time. Using the example of Adventist physician Dr Saleem Faraq, he encouraged the audience to commit themselves to helping others without expecting personal gain.

Twenty-two students completed their German- or English-language Master's degrees in the School of Social Sciences: Master of Arts in Counseling, Master of Arts in Development Studies, Master of Arts in International Social Sciences, Master of Arts in Music Therapy and Master of Arts in Social and Health Management. Three students graduated from the School of Theology with a Master of Arts in Theology, Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry and Master of Theological Studies. Six students graduated in absentia. They are already working at their places of employment in Myanmar, Nigeria, or Germany.

Two prizes were awarded for outstanding achievements by foreign students. Prof. Thomas Spiegler presented the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) prize to Mary Longor (Master of Arts in Development Studies).

Dr Friedegard Föltz, Vice-Rector and member of the board of the Friends of Friedensau International Association (FFF), presented Gabriel Agbojo, graduate of the Master's programme in International Social Sciences, with the association's prize for outstanding commitment in the two fields of social sciences and theology. Gabriel's achievements are impressive, especially his knowledge of the German language. He completed his theology studies in Friedensau in 2023.

Gunnar Scholz, President of the Berlin-Central German Association, gave the welcoming address on behalf of the SDA Church. He wished the graduates success in serving humanity as bridge builders and in shaping the future with their excellent education.

Lecturer Goran Živković, Ph.D., addressed the new alumni on behalf of the university and emphasised the importance of the education they had received in Friedensau: ‘Friedensau is not just an educational institution – Friedensau is a learning and living community that leaves lifelong friendships and lasting impressions.’

Words of thanks from former student representative Stephen Ackah and responses from students Beatrice Gyamfi (M.A. International Social Sciences) and Itje Zepnik (Master of Arts Pastoral Ministry) followed the welcoming addresses. After the prayer of sending by Chaplain Dittmar Dost, Rector Prof. Fischer bid a warm farewell.

Guests from regional and local politics also attended the graduation ceremony.

The town of Friedensau was founded in 1899 and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2024. It is home to Friedensau Adventist University, a state-recognised university sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Ten B.A. and M.A. study programmes are available in the schools of social sciences and theology, some of which can be taken alongside work, online or part-time: https://www.thh-friedensau.de. Prospective students can register for taster days and get to know life in the lecture hall and on campus.
