FIFE launches analysis for Jerichower Land
On Thursday, 9 October 2025, the Friedensau Institute for Evaluation (FIFE), in cooperation with the AWO Landesverband Sachsen-Anhalt e. V., began a comprehensive situation and resource analysis in the district of Jerichower Land, Saxony-Anhalt. The aim of the study is to assess the current socio-political, economic and demographic situation in the district, identify local challenges and needs, and identify available resources for strengthening democratic engagement and social cohesion.
The project is led by Dr Kwaku Arhin-Sam (Director of FIFE), with Professor Ulrike Schultz and Dr Jill Blau serving as principal investigators. Moyosoreoluwa Agbojo and Siobhan Schultz join the research team as assistants, supporting data collection and analysis and stakeholder engagement across the district.
‘The situation and resource analysis is an important step towards understanding the complex socio-economic and political dynamics that characterise the Jerichower Land district,’ said Dr Arhin-Sam. ‘Our findings will help local stakeholders build on existing strengths and address challenges in a coordinated and evidence-based manner.’
The study focuses on two main regions within the district:
- Burg region: Möckern, Gommern, Burg and Loburg
- Genthin region: Güsen, Elbe-Parey, Jerichow and Genthin
Based on empirically sound research methods, the study analyses local socio-economic conditions, political participation and community structures. It also identifies key actors, networks and institutional resources that contribute to promoting democracy, inclusion and resilience.
The final report will contain evidence-based recommendations, support civil society initiatives and relate the various political levels to the overarching goals of the federal programme ‘Live Democracy!’.
