Magdeburg Cathedral Choir gives "Jesu bleibet meine Freude" concert

The Friedensau Adventist University cordially invites you to a concert by the Magdeburg Cathedral Choir under the direction of Cathedral Cantor Christian Otto on Saturday, January 20, 2024, 7.30 pm, in the chapel, An der Ihle 5, in Friedensau.

The audience can look forward to music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Samuel Sebastian Wesley – and others – performed by the Magdeburg Cathedral Choir in Friedensau. Admission is free.

"Jesu remains my joy, my heart's comfort and juice, Jesus resists all suffering, He is my life's strength, my eyes' delight and sunshine, my soul's treasure and bliss; therefore I will not leave Jesus..."

This text from Bach Cantata 147 "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben" (Heart and Mouth and Deed and Life), which is sung at Vespers, is always moving. The "Credo in unum Deum" from Mozart's Coronation Mass sets the musical confession of Christian faith in the one God to music. It will also be performed, as well as other choral pieces and psalms from the choir's repertoire.

The Magdeburg Cathedral Choir was founded around 200 years ago. Since then, it has been very successful in performing large choral works, which have taken it throughout Europe and as far as Israel. The Magdeburg Cathedral Choir spends its rehearsal weekend in Friedensau in January. As a special gift, Johann Sebastian Bach's "Dorian Toccata for Organ" BWV 538 will be performed, with reference to the 50th anniversary of the consecration of the Friedensau Schuke organ on July 4, 1974 (Text: Andrea Cramer).
