Rental Contract

All provisions of the rental contract (available at Martina Lucke/Chancellery) and security agreement must be observed. Additionally, it is important that the fire safety doors in the dormitory areas remain closed otherwise they defeat their purpose (which can have lethal consequences in the event of a fire).

The fire extinguishers must remain in their holders and should not be misused to prop doors open.

Smoking as well as the consumption of alcohol and other drugs are not allowed in any of the university buildings or on the campus grounds.

Open flames (candles etc.) are prohibited in dormitory rooms.

Cooking and the operation of refrigerators is not permitted in the rooms of the student halls of residence; the refrigerator compartments in the communal kitchens are to be used.

Laundry may only be dried in rooms designated for that purpose. Do not use the corridors and staircases. These are escape routes and must always remain clear

Independence

Since Friedensau is a university, we like to treat our adult students like adults. This means that you are responsible for yourself. In return, we expect appropriate, mature behavior from all students.

Rules: We don’t have many but we expect you to keep them. Please treat others fairly and be considerate; respect other people’s property; be good to yourself by not drinking, smoking, or using drugs. You have signed a contract stating that you plan to follow the rules.

According to the Christian standards of the university, only students of the same sex may use a student dormitory room overnight. Guest rooms in the residence hall are available, at a fee, for persons of the other sex. Any leasing of a room by students to a third party is prohibited.

Housekeeping

All students are personally responsible for their own housekeeping.

Bedding and Linens

Your bed comes with a pillow, duvet and a mattress protector. Bed linen is provided on request. Should you need more, please contact Iris Müller (Telephone 140).

Please wash your covers from time to time and do not sleep in your bed without them!

The woolen blankets from the rooms are not to be used outside (e.g. as lounging blankets) on the lawn.

Kitchen

There is a kitchenette available for students in the Erich-Meyer-Haus (MEY), in the Otto-Lüpke-Haus Süd (LÜP, basement), in the Wilhelm-Michael-House (MIC 207) and in the Ludwig-Richard-Conradi-House (CON, basement). To use the kitchenette, you must register with the housing administration/residence hall management (office CON 103).

If you want to use the kitchen, you are obliged to clean it regularly according to the cleaning schedule. Basically, please make sure to leave it clean so that the next person can prepare something there!

Repairs and Maintenance Requests

Damage to the facilities in the hall of residence must be reported to the hall of residence management as soon as possible.

The sooner something is repaired, the less effort is usually required.

Heating

You can adjust the heat individually in your room. Should there be a problem, please contact the deans. Please help to save energy and costs by setting the regulator on the radiator to „0“ before opening the window. Please air your room regularly, preferably twice a day, for five minutes, with the window wide open. This prevents the formation of mould. If you notice mould, please contact the dormitory management as soon as possible. Airing is the only way to
avoid this.

Moving in and moving out

Lease agreements are generally for a fixed term and are currently based on the standard period of study plus a reasonable extension (usually up to a maximum of +50%).

If you wish to terminate the lease or move out, you must notify the dormitory administration in a timely manner.

The lease automatically ends upon the effective date of withdrawal from the university.

If you move out early, written notice of termination is required. The notice period is two weeks to the end of the month.

The handover of rooms or apartments must be done in person with the residence hall administration. All keys and the transponder must be returned at that time.

The room or apartment must be handed over in a clean condition. All personal belongings must be removed. The provided checklist (available from the residence hall administration) is authoritative. Cleanliness and proper handover affect the refund of the security deposit.

If you move in or out of a flat (married students), the deans will read the electricity, water, and heating meters with you. Electricity must be cancelled by the tenant with the energy provider. The “Service for international students” (SIS) can help you with this, if necessary.
