­Medical Help­

If you have a cold, diarrhea or vomiting, you can wait to see if the symptoms subside, or you can visit the doctor the next day. If you don’t have an appointment, it is advisable to arrive very early at the doctor’s office and be prepared for a longer waiting time.   

Usually you consult a general practitioner, a family doctor (German: Hausarzt) first. He examines you and, if needed, he writes a prescription or/and a certificate of illness (Krankenschein). The sick slip must be presented to the Dean‘s Office to excuse absences from the program. If necessary, the doctor will send you to a specialist or hospital with a referral slip.   

If you are sick and you cannot wait until the general doctor is open, you can call +49 3921 116117 and ask for help. The doctor on duty will advise you. Sometimes you may be sent to the hospital or the doctor on call will come to your home (infectious diseases).  

If you have a sport accident, you have to go to a surgeon (Dr. Lemme/Dr.Hansen) in Burg for x-ray or when they are closed, directly to the emergency reception of the hospi- tal (Notaufnahme). The hospital is not allowed to write a certificate of illness for your employer, so at the next day you have to go to the surgeon or the general practitioner to get it.  

In case all the doctors are closed and it is not a live threatening situation, you can go contact the on-call doctors office in Magdeburg. Address: Leipziger Str. 44, House 60 a, Telefon +49 391 6725333. There are general practitioners, pediatricians, ENT physicians and eye doctors. If you have strong pain, you can go directly to the physician. Otherwise,be sure to make an appointment in advance.  

If you have an accident and are seriously injured or when your life is threatened by a heart attack, stroke, seizure or something else, you must call 112 for an ambulance.   

If you need medical help, always take your insurance card or insurance documents with you. You may not be treated until you provide proof of health insurance.
