Sunday reading in the library: ‘Stories from the Jerichower Land’

On Sunday, 2 November 2025, at 4 p.m., the Friedensau University Library invites you to a book reading with the Pelikan e.V. association, which recently published its book ‘Pelikaner auf dem Storchenhof’ (Pelicans at the Stork Farm) and will present life stories of people from the Jerichower Land region. The musical element of the afternoon will be provided by Siegi Wilke, a singer-songwriter from Burg, with her well-known sophisticated lyrics. The library team cordially invites you to this event. Admission is free, but donations to support the association's work are welcome.

Last year, twelve members of the Burger Authors' Circle set out to write down the life stories of people in the Jerichower Land region who were willing to tell them and who had achieved remarkable things. These life stories are about ‘successes, struggles, victories, defeats, hopes and disappointments,’ as stated in the foreword to the resulting work, ‘Pelikaner auf dem Storchenhof. Lebensgeschichten aus dem Jerichower Land’ (Pelicans at the Stork Farm: Life Stories from the Jerichow Region). Readers include Klaus-D. Vogt, who reads a text about Friedensau, and Marcus Krugel, who runs the Friedensau café; Lutz Sehmisch reads about Friedel Große from Jerichow, the ‘good spirit of the parish’; and Dorothea Iser reads her text about Anette Meyer, managing director of Burger Stadtwerke, entitled ‘Das grüne Herz’ (The Green Heart). Visitors are welcome to browse and purchase books at a themed book table in the library.

The reading will take place at the library of Friedensau Adventist University, Ahornstraße 3. Exhibitions, readings, lectures, and other events related to books are held here at regular intervals. The modern building, which is a striking feature of Friedensau, houses a diverse collection of over 150,000 media items.
