Alumni Reunion Brings Generations Back to Friedensau
15. Oct. 2026
From October 16 to 18, 2026, Friedensau will host a large Alumni Reunion, to which former faculty members and staff have also been invited. Many former students pursued their careers within the Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving as pastors or working in a wide variety of ministries and institutions. Many already know one another, while others have never crossed paths before.
Around 120 participants have registered for the event. Judging by the registrations, the oldest participant is a graduate from 1956. The youngest attendee, by contrast, is only a few weeks old. His father graduated from Friedensau as a theology student about 25 years ago and is now returning with his young family to his former place of study to take part in the reunion.
A Weekend Full of Encounters and Memories
The weekend program offers a colorful mix of activities.
On Friday evening, participants will be welcomed with greetings and music. One particularly entertaining highlight is expected to be a form of “speed dating,” where unfamiliar faces may suddenly seem surprisingly familiar. Later in the evening, attendees will have the opportunity to watch the Friedensau film in either German or English.
Saturday includes a festive worship service in the Friedensau chapel and numerous opportunities for conversation and fellowship. Special “class reunions” will provide space to share memorabilia and reminisce about earlier days. One important reminder: the official alumni group photo is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to arrive on time in front of the library.
From there, it is only a short walk to the exhibition in the university library entitled “Gesichter. Faces,” featuring school photographs spanning 65 years of Friedensau’s history. While looking back is fascinating, the present is equally important. Members of the university leadership will provide insights into current developments and projects. In the evening, current students will present a concert for alumni and guests.
On Sunday, additional time for fellowship and conversation is planned, along with a future-oriented workshop exploring an important question: What impulses and ideas can alumni contribute to their alma mater?
A Long Tradition of Alumni Gatherings
Alumni reunions have a long and valued tradition in Friedensau. Some graduating classes organize their own gatherings independently. Although the COVID-19 years interrupted the rhythm somewhat, the intention is to return to hosting a central reunion every five years. If that plan continues, the next gathering will take place in 2031.
