City of Möckern Grants Friedensau the Official Designation “Hochschulort”
03. Jul. 2026
On Monday, July 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., the City of Möckern will officially confer the designation “Hochschulort Friedensau” upon Friedensau during a small ceremonial event. The designation recognizes the educational work that has been carried out in Friedensau for the past 127 years and will in future be reflected on the village entrance signs.
By introducing the university into the official place designation, the City of Möckern expresses its appreciation for the longstanding commitment of Friedensau Adventist University. Over many generations, the university has significantly shaped the development of Friedensau and established it as a center of education far beyond the region. A place grows together with its university—accordingly, including this significance in the official place name is a visible sign of recognition for the contribution the university makes to Friedensau and to the City of Möckern as a whole.
The City of Möckern, represented by Mayor Doreen Krüger, together with Friedensau’s local mayor Rüdiger Schröter, the Rector of Friedensau Adventist University, Prof. Roland E. Fischer, Ph.D., Tobias H. Koch, Chancellor (Managing Director) of the institutions of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and representatives of the Jerichower Land district, will carry out the official unveiling of the new signage at the entrance to the locality.
Residents of Friedensau, students, and staff of Friedensau Adventist University, as well as all other interested guests, are warmly invited to attend this special occasion. Following the ceremony, a complimentary ice cream will be offered, providing an opportunity to celebrate the new designation together.
