Dr. Parto Teherani-Krönner giving a lecture in Friedensau

06. Dec. 2019

On December 4, 2019, Dr. Parto Teherani-Krönner gave a talk on “Food security versus meal security and meal culture” in a public lecture in the Master’s program in International Social Sciences in the assembly hall of Friedensau Adventist University (FAU). So, it was all about “meal policies.”

The lecturer, who had been invited to Friedensau by Prof. Ulrike Schultz, has been working for years at the Humboldt University of Berlin, at the Faculty of Life Sciences, and at the Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences. Dr. Parto Teherani-Krönner has already published on this topic. “We do not eat raw products, but mostly prepared meals, and we almost always eat in community. Nevertheless, necessary working steps, necessary techniques as well as the social-communicative and cultural dimensions of nutrition are far too rarely considered.” Based on a human and cultural-ecological approach, she calls for a paradigm shift in the nutrition debate, which would ultimately lead to new perspectives for sustainable nutrition in the future. The lecture was part of a series of events on the occasion of the visit by Prof. Olanike Deji from the university in Ile-Ife in Nigeria. Olanike Deji is a scholar of the Georg Forster Research Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Institute of Economic and Social Sciences at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
