Farewell Ceremony for Prof. Andreas Bochmann and Wolfgang Schwabe

On April 8, 2026, two colleagues who had helped shape the university’s profile over several decades were honored at Friedensau Adventist University (FAU).

Andreas Bochmann, Ph.D., was a professor of counseling and pastoral care at FAU and led the master’s program in counseling for the past two decades. Since the 1990s, Andreas Bochmann has offered counseling-related courses at the university, with a particular focus on marriage and family counseling. From 2017 to 2024, he served as Vice Rector and was particularly involved in the digitization of teaching. In his farewell address, the Rector, Prof. Dr. Roland Fischer, emphasized that Andreas Bochmann had significantly shaped the university through his teaching, the development of degree programs, and his presence as a pastor and counselor. Throughout his entire ministry as a pastor and university professor, Andreas Bochmann always put people first.

Wolfgang Schwabe, a psychotherapist with a practice in Berlin, has been offering psychology-focused courses in the School of Social Work Science Study programs at Friedensau since the early 1990s. In his laudatory address, the Dean, Prof. Dr. Thomas Spiegler, emphasized that students have generally described Wolfgang Schwabe’s lectures and seminars as interesting and engaging. Even years after graduation, many alumni say that these courses are highly relevant to their professional work. Although he worked only part-time at the university, Wolfgang Schwabe was an active member of the department faculty, contributed to the development of the degree program profiles, and was highly regarded for his ability to constructively bridge the perspectives from within and outside the institution through his commitment to the university.

Even after reaching retirement age, both colleagues will continue to be involved in their professional fields on a reduced basis. The university administration and faculty wish them joy and success in this endeavor.
