Students on the Master’s programme in Development Studies go on a field trip
11. Jun. 2026
As part of the annual field trip for the Master’s programme in Development Studies (specialising in Development Project Management) at Friedensau Adventist University (FAU), 17 students from 13 different countries had the opportunity to take part in an intensive week of practical experience in Bulgaria in May 2026. They each brought their own diverse professional and cultural backgrounds to the experience. In collaboration with ADRA Bulgaria – the Adventist relief organisation – they gained practical insights into international development cooperation.
The main aim of the week-long course was to give the participating students an on-the-ground, first-hand understanding of the impact of humanitarian and development projects, their sustainability, and how cooperation works in practice. The course took place at ADRA’s medical and social centre in Pasardzhik, which provided the participants with almost ideal conditions.
The group was accompanied by guest lecturer Dr Sisira Withanachchi and Isaac Adjei, research assistant in the School of Social Sciences.
The study group took the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Bulgarian context. They learnt about the various projects run by ADRA Bulgaria and had the chance to talk to staff and project beneficiaries, reflecting together on their experiences in implementing these projects.
