Institute for Archeology

The Institute of Archaeology makes important contributions to our understanding of historical and sociocultural developments in the ancient region of Moab. The goal of the ThHF’s archaeological research is to establish a scientific basis for the cultural and historical connections mentioned in the Old Testament between Israel and Moab.

During intensive surface surveys, numerous sites were discovered whose chronological dating has significantly enriched our understanding of the historical settlement of the Moabites over the centuries. The institute possesses an extensive collection of pottery, maps, and literature on this field of research.

Some of the objects found in Balu’a are on display at the Friedensau Museum, while others are exhibited in Jordanian museums.
