Studying and teaching since 1899
Friedensau Adventist University (FAU) is a state-accredited university run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It was founded in 1899 and can look back on a long tradition and a great deal of experience in studying and teaching. 200 students from more than 30 nations are currently enrolled.
Students can choose between eight bachelor's and master's programs in the School of Social Sciences and the School of Theology. Some programs can also be studied part-time. And then, of course, FAU also offers the course "German as a Foreign Language".
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a degree from a private state-accredited university comparable with a degree from a public university?
Are the requirements for bachelor's and master's programs at private and public state-accredited universities the same?
There are no major differences between private and public universities in terms of study requirements. Only persons who also meet the requirements for admission to a public university (university entrance certification) may be granted admission to a private university.
The requirement for the admission to a bachelor's program at FAU is the General Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Abitur). There is no numerus clausus at FAU. Persons who do not have Abitur may also be able to study at FAU if they pass our assessment test.
The requirement for the admission to a master's program at FAU is a university degree with a minimum grade of 2.0 to 2.5, depending on the program. In Saxony-Anhalt, there is no access to master's programs without a formal first university degree on the basis of professional qualification.
What about tuition? How to finance studies?
As a private university run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, FAU does not receive any government subsidies, but is financed by tuition and, to a much greater extent, by subsidies from the school authorities. Tuition range from €2,100 (bachelor's programs) and €2,340 (master's programs) per semester, depending on the program. The registration fee is €380 per semester.
FAU students may receive BAföG on application if they meet the conditions. The responsible office is Studentenwerk Magdeburg: https://www.studentenwerk-magdeburg.de/finanzierung/bafog/
FAU students can do student jobs on campus and earn up to €450 per month. In general, students should not work more than 20 hours per week during the semester.
Foreign students can apply for DAAD scholarships and receive up to €250 per month (at a maximum of nine months per year).
Do FAU students have to belong to a religious community or a church?
No, people with totally different world views are studying at Friedensau Adventist University: Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, atheists.
As a free church Adventist institution we demand respect for other religions, world views, and cultures. We are convinced that faith, education, and lifestyle form a unit, and strive to reflect a spirituality based on the Gospel in the daily life at FAU.
