Commemoration of Ruth Scholz (1935–2021)

20. Apr. 2021

Friedensau Adventist University (FAU) remembers Ruth Scholz, the last superior of the Friedensau Sisterhood. She passed away on April 9, 2021. Ruth Scholz (née Saß) is known to many as the wife of Pastor Johannes Scholz. Her spheres of activity as a pastor couple and family were in Berlin, Naumburg, Weißenfels, Halle, Görlitz, from 1985 in Friedensau; later in Genthin and Lichtenberg.

Ruth Scholz had trained as a nurse; much later, after moving to Friedensau, she was employed as a community nurse in the village from 1986 and also worked in the old people's home. In 1988 she was appointed superior of the Friedensau Sisterhood and was employed by the East German Association (of the SDA in the GDR). As superior of the Friedensau Sisterhood, she organized annual meetings, ensured cohesion among herself; selected the prospective nurses who were trained in the Paul Gerhard Stift Wittenberg during the GDR period and accompanied them during their apprenticeship. When the training of nurses was taken over by the Berlin-Waldfriede Hospital in 1991, she gave up this work, but continued to lead the Sisterhood on a voluntary basis until 2011. She provided an important service in many areas; her practical approach and problem-solving - coupled with a friendly and amiable nature - will be remembered by many.

The FAU bids farewell to Sister Ruth Scholz with gratitude and sends heartfelt condolences to her husband and entire family.
