MDR service from Friedensau

02. May. 2024

To mark the 125th anniversary of Friedensau, the MDR will record the regular service on Sabbath, May 4, 2024, from Friedensau Chapel and broadcast it on Sunday, May 5, from 10 a.m. on the MDR television channel of the public broadcaster. The sermon will be given by Dr. Johannes Hartlapp, church historian at Friedensau Adventist University. In his topic, he will deal with the interpretation of the text from Isaiah 60:1: "Arise, let there be light". It is a biblical text which, with its programmatic dynamics, has a special significance for Friedensau. The International Choir of the students of Friedensau Adventist University and the band of the university community under the direction of theology student Itje Zepnik and counseling student Anton Luksic will sing and play music. The children's moment at the beginning of the service will be organized by Cordula Hartmann, adventure educator and Friedensau parishioner. Alexander Schulze, Dean of the Theology Department at the School of Theology, will lead the service. It will also be possible to watch the service afterwards via the media library: www.ardmediathek.de. A few, but important, instructions apply to participation on site. For example, seats must be taken by 9.30 a.m. at the latest. In addition, by being present in the chapel, visitors agree that they may be seen in recordings and that the resulting film recordings may be produced, stored and published. The service will be broadcast on Friedensau-TV and on a TV set in room LÜP 115. 10 a.m. Stephan Ringeis, MDR broadcasting representative, welcomes the Friedensau congregation and starts the recording.

Friedensau was founded in 1899 to establish a missionary and industrial school. Today, Friedensau Adventist University of Theology, a state-recognized university sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, continues the tradition as an Adventist educational institution. Ten B.A. and M.A. courses can be taken in the Schools of Social Sciences and Theology – some of them part-time, online or part-time: https://www.thh-friedensau.de. Prospective students can register for taster days and get to know life in the lecture hall and on campus.
