Friedensau mourns the death of Helmut Weber (1934–2023)
Brother Helmut Weber was born in Bessarabia on July, 20, 1934. The war brought his parents and their six children to Central Germany. Helmut Weber was baptised in Halle/Saale in June 1953. He finished secondary school in the same year. In 1956 he decided to train as a preacher in Friedensau. After successful completion in 1959, he first worked in Rostock. The following year he and Herta Kadur married. They moved together to Krakow am See. Further stations of service were in the West Saxon Association (Gornau near Chemnitz) and Borna near Leipzig, which belonged to the Northeast Saxon Association. During these years the family grew. Four girls – Angelika (1961), Manuela (1962), Wiltrud (1963) and Damaris (1966) – were given to them. From 1970, Helmut Weber qualified in the commercial field. On 1 January 1975 he was called to Friedensau. Here he first worked as a home manager in the old people's home, and from 1 July 1976 as the main accountant of the Friedensau Institutions. Until his retirement in the summer of 1999, i.e. for almost 25 years, he was involved with the finances; a job he was particularly fond of. On retirement, Helmut and Herta Weber moved to Franconia to live with one of their daughters. Here they were involved in the Bamberg community as long as their health allowed. But the years of strain left many traces. Increasing dementia constantly limited his scope of action. On April, 26, 2023, he quietly fell asleep at the age of 89.
Helmut Weber was a man of quiet tones, but all the more a family man. You could hear a lot of laughter at Weber's. This included an attitude towards life that was completely devoted to people. Helmut Weber never pushed himself into the front row. Instead, his qualities lay in a great warm-heartedness, which went hand in hand with consistency and humour. This combination of character traits is not common. His faith was attractive and beneficial. In our dealings with the staff and students in Friedensau we came to know and appreciate him as an always friendly and extremely conscientious brother. When others had long since finished work, his office was still brightly lit. Now his life light has gone out. God has called. It is with great gratitude that we say goodbye to a co-worker who put service to God first.
The funeral will take place on May, 22, 2023 in the Tambach Castle Resting Forest.
