What are you thankful for? – Thanksgiving in Friedensau
29. Nov. 2019
On November 28, 2019, the traditional Thanksgiving dinner took place in the event barn. As always, staff and students of Friedensau Adventist University (FAU) took the opportunity to dress up for dinner and enjoy the evening and the festive atmosphere in good company. Even though Thanksgiving is not that common in Germany, FAU has been celebrating this event with its international students for a couple of years already. The students come from many different countries, for instance from the USA where Thanksgiving is one of the most important events of the year.
Once again, the Thanksgiving dinner at FAU was organized by the course “German as a Foreign Language”. In laborious work, the German course participants prepared a buffet with traditional American food for almost 80 people. There was turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and much more, so that all guests had a full belly and were satisfied. Small games and an overview of the origin and history of Thanksgiving complemented the evening.
A special highlight was the lovely decorated photo booth corner where the guests could take snapshots with small, thematically matching props to keep the evening in good memory. Friedensau is grateful for this wonderful event that brightens up the cold November days every year. This event will not be quickly forgotten. We cannot wait for the next Thanksgiving to come!
