On September 17, 2018, the new course of "German as a Foreign Language" started with 17 participants from 16 different countries at Friedensau Adventist University (FAU). The students learn the German language in 20 lessons per week. They learn about German culture, history, geography, literature, phonetics, and grammar, but especially get to speak German in conversation groups. Excursions to cities and towns nearby and also to more distant special highlights of German culture additionally convey a more vivid understanding of the German language, mentality, and values. The students will travel to Magdeburg, Dresden, Wittenberg, Leipzig, and Munich to discover many interesting sights there.

The course "German as a Foreign Language" is offered in two different levels: The first level does not require any previous knowledge of German. The second level requires basic knowledge of German (at least GER A1). The aim of both courses is the TestDaF, a test in German as a foreign language which entitles the holder to study at German universities. Students in the advanced level should normally reach the level for this test after one year. Experience has shown that beginners need 1.5 to 2 years to reach the level required for this test.
